This competitive bid process was the first in its history. The University of Texas System is proud to be one of the only two higher education systems in the country capable of competing for this contract. The working relationship with Lockheed Martin has grown throughout this process and the partnership will continue through the work at Sandia National Laboratory according to Chancellor Mark G. Yudof. Powers, Jr., dean, School of Law, The University of Texas at Austin, was officially named president of The University of Texas at Austin on Monday, Dec. 5, by the UT System Board of Regents. Powers will succeed President Larry R. Faulkner on February 1, 2006. In commemoration of the vote by the Board of Regents, the UT Austin Main Tower will be lit orange Monday evening in recognition and appreciation to Dr. Faulkner for his service as president and to welcome his successor, William Powers, as the 28th president of the campus.
