SHELCO - Home Page - The St Helena Leisure Corporation Ltd   St Helena Government Sign Resort Deal with Shelco February 2005 Following a high-level negotiating visit by Shelco Chairman Sir Nigel Thompson and two colleagues to St Helena from February 20 to 23, 2005, the St Helena Governor, His Excellency Mr Michael Clancy and Sir Nigel issued a Joint Public Statement as follows: The Shelco Team, comprising Sir Nigel Thompson, Alasdair Thomson and Peter Allport, enjoyed successful meetings with the Air Access Team, the Executive Council and the Legislative Council. Following these, His Excellency the Governor, Mr Michael Clancy, and Sir Nigel Thompson, Chairman of Shelco, are pleased to announce that, subject to a positive airport decision and agreeing acceptable arrangements for an air service, Shelco and SHG have agreed to work together with the objective of achieving : A self sufficient and principally tourist based economy with, where practical, a Saints first employment policy. Policies to help increase the number of tourists visiting the Island with particular emphasis on generating high value, low volume demand. The maintenance and enhancement of the environment to ensure that the Island can support new development and population growth whilst limiting the impact on its unique ecology. The
