Commonwealth of Learning Education Specialist in Lesotho The Education Specialist , (Educational Technology ) of the Commonwealth of Learning Mr. David Walker arrived in Lesotho on Thursday December 15 , 2005 for a three-day visit . On arrival Mr. Walker met the Honourable Minister of Education and Training Mr. Mohlabi Tsekoa. In his remarks , Minister Tsekoa revealed that the greatest challenge which the government is currently working on , is to make schools available nearer to village clusters so that children do not travel long distances. He mentioned that Lesotho?s enrollment rate is currently at 85% and that it is through Distance and Open Learning that the rest of the 15% can also be enrolled in school. He added that he is hopeful that Distance Education can help educational institutions in the country to respond to the growing population as a result of free Primary Education. On the same day Mr. walker met the Vice Chancellor of the National University of Lesotho Prof. Mafa Sejanamane. On Friday December 16 th Mr. Walker met the Director of the Lesotho Distance Teaching Centre Mr. Sechaba Seutloali and the Director Lesotho College of Education Dr .Ntalenyane Lesoetsa. On the last day of his visit Mr. Walker took an excursion to the Katse not only to see the greatest water project in Southern Africa but also to have a look at some of the beautiful mountains of Lesotho. He returned home on Tuesday 20 th . Mr. Walker s coming to Lesotho was a follow up on the visit by the Commonwealth of Learning Chief executive Sir John Daniel in August 2005. The purpose of the visit was to follow up on the progress made by the Lesotho Distance Teaching Centre with its various learning programmes and the Lesotho College of Education on the Distance Teacher Education programme.
