(similar to customizegoogle, but only for gmail use)
the most recent version of the script was posted first week of january 2006 you can download it online, but only if youve also got greasemonkey (hey, is it time for just a greasemonkey category or does firefox only catch it well enough) The Editor posted the above blurb 6:22 am in: Look and Feel Tools , Firefox Only Comments (0) January 11, 2006 GookBox turns GMail into an Mp3 Music Archive got turned on to this via lifehacker, very cool thing and works on any pop3 email service (though the creators talk specifically about gmail)
this is a service called gookbox from the creators, The first musicail application. Plays and stores music in your google mail account. You now dont need to duplicate or recreate your music collection when you relocate or travel. When you are almost online most of your time on a high speed internet, It becomes imperative to centralise almost everything important. Gookbox helps you do just that. Gookbox maintains your music collection in your gmail account, streams your music directly from your mailbox even caching it for times you become offline. note that youre supposed to buy a key, but (as of time of this post) there is a forum in the support section of the site that says to use a random key (posted there) to unlock the software if not purchasing..sounds like a hack for a hack, huh The Editor posted the above blurb 8:02 pm in: Expansion Tools Comments (0) January 10, 2006 Alternate version of Gmail Compose for Custom Google Home Page okay, this was admittedly built from travis humes greasemonkey script to add gmail to a custom google home page , but this version offers some refinements
from the author randall wald , The difference is that this script adds a Compose text link between the Inbox and Show/Hide Preview links, rather than a button at the bottom of the message index. this version can be downloaded at: http://userscripts.com/scripts/show/1762 - and yes, youre gonna need greasemonkey The Editor posted the above blurb 6:42 am in: Look and Feel Tools , Firefox Only Comments (0) January 9, 2006 Gmail Fixed Left Side Menu and Search this is a greasemonkey script for firefox users that will lock the left side menu into place - though do note that if youve got a zillion folders then you might encounter visibility issues
from the author, The aim of this script is to allow the left hand side navigation menu in Gmail to be fixed. As the user scrolls down a page, the menu on the left of the page stays in view
I have also added a search box to the bottom of the menu, and now after a request have made the top navigation bar stay fixed too so it stays visible in long emails/conversations. the script can be downloaded at: http://www.blueghost.co.uk/gmail_flm.html
this was just updated again on 1/4/06 by michael pritchard The Editor posted the above blurb 8:36 am in: Look and Feel Tools , Firefox Only Comments (0) January 6, 2006 New Gmail Trademark Dispute in Canada explained a canadian IP lawyer and blog author named sander gelsing who authors a very focused blog about canadian patents, trademarks and copyright issues, has researched in solid detail the new buzz surrounding a small battle brewing between google and gossamer threads in canada. the summary is that gossamer filed earlier but google claims earlier actual use, but canadian precedent says that courts should defer (when in conflict) to filing dates, not claimed use - this indicates a potential win for gossamer
theres a very detailed blog post from sander which excerpts for the precedent case and explains this in more detail for interested readers
please note that there is a very recent follow up post to this original post which examines other possible outcomes, with revised expert opinion
The Editor posted the above blurb 2:57 pm in: Gmail in the News Comments (0) Greasemonkey Script to quickly find GMail without labels note that this was updated again (early jan 06) and might have resolved earlier complaints about lack of full functionality
.the author of this greasemonkey script is hosting the most current version at: gmailUnlabelled originally, following first release, many users had trouble getting this to work correctly so check which version of greasemonkey youve got going
from the creator, gmailUnlabelled is a greasemonkey script that adds a special label Unlabelled which searches for all the converstions without a label. Why Gmail doesnt provide a search to search for unlabelled conversations. This is quite handy if youve forgotten to label some conversations. The Editor posted the above blurb 7:51 am in: Look and Feel Tools , Firefox Only Comments (0) Gmail Smart-Delete Button for Firefox 1.5 script was updated 1/4/06: download new script this is different from the other greasemonkey script in that the delete button only appears if an item has been checked - and it does not appear next to the archive button where one might accidentally click on it (!)
you can follow the most recent discussion and get the script at the authors blog: Gmail Smart-Delete Button from the creator, Includes all the new user-requested changes of ver 0.4.1 plus incorporates XPC Native Wrappers for additional security. 1. Smart-Delete now traps for Alt and Ctrl keypresses. These combination keypresses will no longer erroneously trigger mail deletion. 2. User defined keyboard shortcut - User can now set which key they would like to use to trigger mail deletion. oh, and of course, youre gonna need miniRank is neither responsible for the content of the summary provided here nor affiliated with the website
